Established in 2007, 2 years after passing of a great leader, mentor, friend, husband, father, and grandfather. The Don Laberge Memorial Golf Classic raised funds in support of The Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Patient Financial Assistance Program to make life better for Albertans facing cancer.

Don’s personal experience with the exceptional care provided at The Tom Baker Cancer Centre and his passion for golf made the decision to establish the tournament to raise funds for the Alberta Cancer Foundation an obvious choice. The event increased awareness and generated some of the much needed funds for The Alberta Cancer Foundation to continue research and provide assistance in the battle against cancer. A total of over $250,000 has been raised for the Alberta Cancer Foundation since the event inception.

A cancer diagnosis is overwhelming. Fortunately, thanks to your support of the Alberta Cancer Foundation Golf Classic, patient navigators are available to help.

Alberta Cancer Foundation Patient Navigators have been in existence since 2012 at the 15 regional and community cancer centres across Alberta. As registered nurses with specialized training in cancer care, patient navigators explain treatment choices and test results, and assist with the physical, practical and emotional challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis.

Last year alone 5,065 patients across Alberta reached out to their local patient navigator totaling more than 19,060 visits/ interactions. This program is not only beneficial for patients but it also is estimated to save the health system at least $1 million by alleviating visits to family physicians and emergency rooms for non-emergent issues.

Thank you for making this possible.

There is never an optimal time to hear the words “you have cancer”, but thanks to the generous support from donors like you, we are able to make life better for patients across the province. Patients like Jack Sehn.
