Community Fundraiser to Show the Love to Cross Cancer Institute

Celebrate. Inspire. Reinvest.

EDMONTON – For 50 years, the Cross Cancer Institute has been delivering world-class treatment and care to Albertans facing cancer. A passionate group of community business leaders has come together to celebrate this facility by launching a lofty fundraising campaign that will continue to support the Cross Cancer Institute for years to come.

To unveil the new community campaign, are committee co-chairs, Darren Baumgardner, Guy Mersereau and Peter Wilkes. The Show the Love campaign has a fundraising goal of $5,000,000. To meet that goal, a number of initiatives are planned this year, including working with local greenhouses, mobile giving, an Edmonton Eskimos game in October and collection boxes around the city at DynaLIFE locations.

“This is a very exciting campaign led by a passionate group of community and business leaders who recognize the excellent treatment and care taking place in our city and province,” says George Andrews, President and CEO of the Alberta Cancer Foundation. “We’re honoured to be part of this and to help continue to support the Cross Cancer Institute for years to come—this campaign will impact so many people who face a cancer diagnosis.”

The Cross Cancer Institute is northern Alberta’s own comprehensive cancer centre and a leader in innovative cancer research, prevention, treatment and care initiatives across the province and beyond. As one of 17 Alberta Health Services cancer centres directly supported by the Alberta Cancer Foundation, the Cross Cancer Institute has been changing the way we treat cancer in Alberta since its inception in September 1968. The University of Alberta’s Department of Oncology is also celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this year.

One in four Albertans hear the words: you have cancer. Last year, almost 22,000 patients received treatment at the Cross Cancer Institute.
