Taylor Bell Memorial Fundraiser @ 4th Spot Kitchen and Bar
Oct 12 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

We are getting organized for our 5th Annual Taylor Bell Memorial Fundraiser which is being held October 12th, 2019. It is hard to believe we have hit the 5 year mark! This event has been so successful thanks to the wonderful donations we have received over the last 4 yrs. We have managed to raise over $60,000 so far to benefit Young Adult Cancer Canada and The Tom Baker Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic. To learn more, please visit our website.

We lost our daughter, Taylor Marie Bell to Acute Myeloid Leukemia on December 23, 2013. She was just 20 yrs. old. Taylor was treated at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre here in Calgary. The doctors and nurses were wonderful and they did their best to help us all through this tragic 8 month ordeal. At a time when most young adults are becoming independent, going away to school, choosing career paths, and maybe considering marriage and a family. Young adults affected by cancer are, instead, coming to terms with chemotherapy, radiation, prospects of infertility, and potentially moving back to live with their parents. This, as you can imagine, can be a very isolating experience during an already traumatic time. In Taylor’s memory, we are committed to helping other families who may be facing a similar situation. We see ourselves as advocates for this wonderful yet vulnerable and sometimes misunderstood group of young people between the ages of 18-39 years.

We were also invited to share our story in the Alberta Cancer Foundation magazine “Leap”, a publication about Alberta’s cancer free movement. https://myleapmagazine.ca/2015/09/01/staying-strong-for-taylor/

something2wear Virtual Fall Fashion Show @ something2wear (Virtually)
Oct 24 @ 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

something2wear fall fashion show is going virtual, but in style of course!

We are doing 4 fashion show segments on Instagram Live on Sunday from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
We will be selling Mystery bags for $25 and $50, where 100% of proceeds will come back to the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Patient Financial Assistance Program.

Cancer can be a huge strain on the finances. People are often forced to cash in their retirement funds and use up their savings to make ends meet during treatment. The costs can be so overwhelming that some patients will decide against having life-saving therapy and instead choose a lesser treatment as they simply cannot afford the out-of-pocket expenses for items such as medications, medical supplies, transportation, accommodations and child care. Thanks to individuals like you, patients and families are able to receive financial support during their treatment so they can focus on what matters most – healing.

Cameron Daye Memorial Golf Invitational @ Turner Valley Golf Club
Aug 20 all-day
Cameron Daye Memorial Golf Invitational @ Turner Valley Golf Club

To make life better for sarcoma patients, more research is needed. My family and I have been working with the Alberta Cancer Foundation to raise funds specifically for full-time resources for sarcoma research. Together, we will create more moments for sarcoma patients across the province.

Every year, 150 Albertans are diagnosed with sarcoma, with children and young adults disproportionately accounting 15 per cent of cases.

In the summer of 2019, Rangeland Engineering partnered with the Alberta Cancer Foundation on the creation of the Cameron Daye and Catherine Pearson Sarcoma Fellowship Fund. Valued at approximately $2.7 million, the fund will be put toward groundbreaking sarcoma research initiatives. Funds will be spent on projects in Alberta — one of the first is immunotherapy treatment research, conducted by Dr. Michael Monument at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine — across Canada and abroad.

As sarcoma is rare, it is the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s goal to ensure that every sarcoma patient is recruited into this prospective research through iSARP, and outcomes measurement program. Clinical research capacity will be structured around the following priorities: an electronic web-based sarcoma database; prospective and retrospective patient data collection; database integration with clinical care portals; standardized outcome measurements; dedicated site-based clinical research personnel; and participation in sarcoma research.

The mission is to establish a first-in-kind, integrated, collaborative program of dedicated sarcoma research in Calgary focused on: a network of sarcoma knowledge generation; new therapeutic discoveries; patient-focused outcomes; personalized therapies and; leadership in prospective clinical trials. The goal is to become a centre of excellence for sarcoma research and patient care in both pediatric and adult sarcomas here in Alberta.

Our overall vision is to improve personalized therapeutic opportunities, survival, and patient-oriented outcomes for Alberta sarcoma patients.

A gift to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in support of sarcoma research helps position you as a leader in our province. Whether you make a personal gift, become a corporate sponsor, or attend the Cameron Daye Memorial Golf Invitational — your incredibly meaningful gift would translate into opportunities to see improved care and better outcomes for our loved ones, friends and neighbours.
