Since 2016, I (Laval St. Germain) have worked with the Alberta Cancer Foundation to make life better for Albertans facing cancer. I have raised over $60,000 by rowing across the Atlantic Ocean for Confront Cancer Ocean Row and would like to raise an additional $140,000 to complete my fundraising goal of $200,000 by skiing to the South Pole solo and climbing my 7th summit in Antarctica!

We are the University of Calgary Medicine Class of 2021, and we are very excited to run our annual head shave event for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. This year, we are partnering for the first time with students from the Bachelor of Health Sciences and Neurosciences at the U of C! We have had incredible success in the past, with last year’s class raising over $30,000 for Kids Cancer Care Foundation. This year, we want to raise the bar even higher, and we have set our fundraising goal at $50,000!

The Memorial Composite High School Rotary Interact students will be hosting the third Annual Bike-A-Thon on Tuesday, March 19th, 2019. On March 19th at 12:30pm Alida and Leah are putting on an assembly at Prairie Waters Elementary School. They want to share with students and their community what they have learned, how to take action and make an impact. Alida is shaving her head in an attempt to raise more money for research and Leah is dying her hair bright green! They have actively engaged other kids in the school and formed a cancer club. Through this club they have organized a bake sale at their school on February 28th, & March 1st as well as a Loonie Drive March 11-15th. They even have some teachers who may shave their head and Alida’s Oma has agreed to shave her head as well!
We are extremely excited to be partnered with the Alberta Cancer Foundation again because we believe doing this event through a more local foundation means the donations will make a direct impact! All proceeds will go towards the Jack Ady Cancer Centre in Lethbridge and they will put the donations towards their area of greatest need.
Together, with your incredible participation and support, we’ve raised more than $370,000 over the past nine years in support of research and cancer patients across the province. We’ve played hockey and golf, bid on auction items, celebrated at our annual banquet, and this year we can’t wait to do it all again.
