This exhibition by well-known Calgary artist, Simon Y.S. Wong, will be the first time that his works of the Chinese Zodiac will be on display simultaneously. A project that has been over 12 years in the making.
Simon has been creating works depicting the 12 Chinese Zodiac Symbols since 2001. It started when the Calgary Herald asked him to create a special image for their Chinese New Year Special Event supplement. Since then, he has created a new piece every year for the Chinese New Year. In order, the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Each creature and each year has a different style or different medium.
Cancer has affected many people. His mother–in-law, one of his brothers, relatives, one of his students, neighbors, friends, and many others have died of cancer. Simon is supporting the Alberta Cancer Foundation through this exhibit and sales of his artwork.
