The summer months allow me time to enjoy my three kids, their spouses, and grandkids. I revel in this special family time and enjoy every busy moment spent with them. You see, it wasn’t that long ago that my husband, Peter Fargey, went to the doctor with a reoccurring stomach ache. Plans of spending retirement with our kids and grandkids quickly turned to questions when the doctors confirmed Peter’s persistent stomach aches were actually a rare duodenal cancer. That was 2009.
Following three surgeries and 12 rounds of chemotherapy, Peter was declared cancer free. We celebrated the wonderful news as a family and thanked the Cross Cancer Institute for the excellent care. But Peter wanted to do more… he wanted to ensure that other Albertans had access to the same excellent care.
So in 2010, he started the Ion Print Solutions Matching Gift Campaign to inspire the entire province to support Alberta’s 17 cancer centres.
Sadly, after being in remission for five years, Peter’s cancer returned and we said goodbye to him twelve months ago. Now Peter’s vision for Albertans to have access to earlier detection, better treatments, better survival rates, and better quality of life is closer to my heart than ever.
I am extremely proud that for a ninth year, Peter’s former business Ion Print Solutions is continuing its partnership with the Alberta Cancer Foundation through a $50,000 matching gift campaign.
Together, we can honour Peter’s legacy and continue pushing for accelerated change, progress and above all, results.
