Richard Simmons to Bust a Move in Edmonton

January 18, 2012 – Richard Simmons is bringing his fabulous flare and frizzy ‘fro to Edmonton for the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Bust a Move for Breast Health on March 24, 2012. Simmons is the celebrity guest instructor for the final hour of the six-hour fitness extravaganza at Northlands.

“We are thrilled to have Richard Simmons at Bust a Move,” says Brooke Rose, Chief Bust a Mover with the Alberta Cancer Foundation. “His energy and enthusiasm will have us all laughing and lunging during the home stretch of our inaugural event here in Alberta.”

Bust a Move for Breast Health originated in Halifax in 2009 and the Alberta Cancer Foundation wanted to offer Edmontonians a chance to sweat their way through six different exercise sessions while raising money for breast health in the province. Each participant accepts two big challenges: a six-hour workout and a minimum fundraising goal of $1000.

Dollars raised from Bust a Move for Breast Health will be invested in breast health programs at the Cross Cancer Institute and beyond. Past Alberta Cancer Foundation investments from similar events have enabled progress ranging from two state-of the-art mobile digital mammography screening units to research on the amount of physical activity needed to reduce the risk of breast cancer. We can apply new knowledge and discoveries in breast health to the 200 other types of cancer – making a lasting impact for all Albertans.

“We’re encouraging Albertans to sign up alone or as a team,” says Rose. “Aside from raising funds for a great cause, now you get to move it and shake it with Mr. Sweatin’ to the oldies himself. It will be fabulous day.”
