Snowbirds’ fundraising takes flight

Pat and Ed Nestorowicz go to California for the winter every year.  They live in a community in which one third of the residents are Canadian.  Each year, they coordinate a fundraiser for two days called the “Sunshine Invitational”.  It is a series of events including pickle ball, golf, parties and raffles. The funds raised are split between Canada and the United States. This year’s Canadian allocated funds benefited the Alberta Cancer Foundation in support of Lethbridge’s Jack Ady Cancer Centre and the Patient Navigator Program.

The Alberta Cancer Foundation invests in the Patient Navigator Program to ease the journey for cancer patients across Alberta. So far, more than 3,000 Albertans have accessed the program.

Specializing in cancer care, registered nurses work as navigators for cancer patients and their families, guiding them through the treatment process. Listening to patients and answering questions, the navigators explain treatment options, prepare patients for visits and provide resources and information. They will even connect patients with the appropriate services.

Thank you to Pat, Ed and their community for easing the cancer journey for Albertans facing cancer with their generous $33,000 donation!
